Using Payment Cards

Responsible credit card use is an important skill in personal finance. This lesson leads with a basic comparison of three popular payment types (debit cards, credit cards and prepaid debit cards). It then introduces students to the credit card billing cycle and provides a strategy for owning a credit card. Students will also practice how to interpret a credit card billing statement.

Paying your balance in full and on time is the best way to use your credit card responsibly.  Familiarizing yourself with your billing cycle will help you pay your balance on time, and treating your credit card like cash will help you pay your balance in full.

Debit, credit or prepaid debit? You make this decision so many times a day that it might seem common and unimportant. After all, different forms of payment are just different ways to access funds, so what difference does it really make if you put your breakfast sandwich on credit instead of debit?
