Celebrating International Credit Union Day 2022

How Fox Communities Credit Union’s history mirrors the credit union movement

International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. Fox Communities Credit Union will join over 56,000 credit unions around the world to celebrate ICU Day and the credit union movement.

The credit union movement started over 150 years ago in Europe and was built on the principle of “people helping people.” This principle embodies the idea that people, neighbors, and communities can come together to be in charge of their money and financial future.

As the idea moved to the United States, the need for credit unions became apparent. During the Great Depression, a lot of American farmers, teachers, and business-owners found themselves without banking services. These communities came together to form their own financial institutions and credit unions opened in record numbers across the country.

Check out how Fox’s history fits into the credit union movement in the video below and join us in celebrating International Credit Union Day on October 20th.
