Don't let tax season turn into a scam season

Tax season is upon us, which means the scammers are out to get your money

Scammers enjoy tax season because their most effective weapon is fear, and fear runs rampant during tax season. No one wants to go up against the IRS, so pretending to be the IRS is an effective tool for scammers.

FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO STAY ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE TAX SCAMMERS

Scammers are always updating their nefarious ways, but we’ve got you covered so you can stay one step ahead of them. Just follow these tips:

  • The IRS will never call you to notify you of a surprise tax bill, and they always make initial contact by mail
  • The IRS does not accept gift cards as payment, and will never ask you to pay that way
  • The IRS will never call and threaten to arrest you or suspend your social security number for not paying them immediately
