Auto Expert: When in doubt, get it towed
Tow trucks may be expensive, but they’re far cheaper than major automotive repairs
A lot of unexpected and unwelcome things can happen while you’re out on the road. A tire can pop. Your heat or AC can stop working. Your odometer can hit the mileage mark of your next oil change. Thankfully, it’s easy to diagnose what’s wrong when something like that happens. But what about when your check engine light comes on? What should you do then? Unfortunately, there are thousands of reasons why a check engine light may pop on. It could be minor, or it could be major, and without a diagnostic computer, there’s really no way of knowing. In fact, there’s only one thing you can know for sure – if your check engine light is flashing, you should pull over as soon as it’s safe to do so, turn off your engine, and call for a tow. Do not try to drive to an auto shop.
And, yes, tow trucks can be expensive. But if your check engine light is flashing because of something serious, continuing to drive can lead to even more extensive damage, which will then turn into an even bigger bill when all is said and done. And, as we all know, high-cost vehicle repairs don’t always make financial sense. If that is the case, you’ll want to get in touch with us here at Fox to check out our Auto Buying Services and Reliable Rides Auto Loans.
