Money Smart Week 2017

Money Smart Week, April 22-29 of 2017, is a financial literacy campaign that delivers educational programs, classes and activities to consumers of all ages and income levels.

msw-nat-logo-2017_orig (1)In an effort to help area residents learn to better manage their finances, a coalition of local non-profit organizations and businesses is offering a series of events as part of Money Smart Week. The events will take place April 22-29, 2017 at the dates and locations listed below.

Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign focused on promoting financial literacy and building better skills for managing individual and family budgets and resources. This is achieved through the collaboration of organizations across the country including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, non-profits, government agencies and the media. These groups come together each year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers about where they can get help, and provides free educational seminars and activities throughout the week. Programming is offered to all demographics and income levels and covers all facets of personal finance from establishing a budget to first time home buying to estate planning. The effort was created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002.

4:30 PM: Money Smart Cooking Demo & Tasting

Discover the secrets to healthy cooking while not breaking the budget!

Chef Shelly Platten, a 2016 FVTC Culinary Arts graduate, will provide a money smart cooking demonstration and tasting in FVTC’s state-of-the-art Jones Dairy Farm Culinary Theatre. Chef Shelly will provide multiple recipes and food preparation tips to stretch your dollar using rotisserie chicken.

5:15 PM: Money Smart Week Fox Cities Financial Makeover Awards

Find out how smart money choices can change your life!

Four local families will share stories about their inspiring journeys from financial challenges to financial freedom, and how you can do the same.

6:00 PM: Money Smart Week Fox Cities Scholarship Awards & Reception

Three scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors!

$1,000 top prize and two $500 Edvest gift certificates will be awarded. Reception to follow.

Saturday, April 29, 2017 | The BIG Read – for kids ages 3-8 & their siblings

The Building for Kids Chuildren’s Museum
100 West College Ave, Appleton

10-11 AM: Interactive story time featuring Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter book, Just Saving My Money. This FREE, kid-focused event will engage and excite kids about money. Meet the star of the book and have your family’s photo taken with the character! Plus, you will be able to make a craft, and participate in some fun money smart activities!
