Out with the Snow, in with the…Ice Sculptures?

Posted on by Fox Communities

Old Man Winter may finally be slacking off a bit, but we’ve sure been busy in our communities these days! Whether it’s been collecting supplies for people in need or finding opportunities to educate people on all things financial, we’ve been hard at work! Read on to hear more about what our team has been up to!

APPLETON’S AVENUE OF ICE
Starting Feb 19th

Ice sculptures are placed all throughout downtown Appleton in front of businesses in an effort to support local businesses and display artist’s work. The ice sculptures range from musical instruments, to animals, piggy banks, and more. Local businesses on College Avenue are thankful to see people out and coming into their doors supporting them after a tough 2020. Check out our Bike to the Beat ice sculpture… good thing this was made now and not in August during our event!

HELP FOR THE HOMELESS DRIVE
February 14-March 7

The Family Radio Station’s annual ‘Help for the Homeless’ hygiene drive works with area homeless coalitions every spring to stock the shelves of 80+ homeless and crisis programs in 19 Wisconsin communities in their listening areas. The goal of ‘Help for the Homeless’ is to supply a year’s worth of product to each agency.

GIVE BIG GREEN BAY
February 16 – February 17

The Green Bay Packers with the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation sponsored “Give BIG Green Bay” where 45 local nonprofits are chosen to participate in an annual community-wide giving day. The day runs from noon February 16th to noon February 17th. The Packers match funds during this 24-hour period. This year FCCU selected Olde Main Street and Habitat for Humanity to donate to.

GREEN BAY GAMBLERS WE GOTCHA’ GIRL
Saturday, March 6th

This is a first-year new initiative on an age-old problem. The number one reason girls do not attend school is because of their lack of access to feminine products. Fox is the presenting sponsor for “We Gotcha Girl” Fox volunteers collected feminine products and monetary donations to keep our girls in school. The event was a big success, collecting 5 giant garbage bags of products which were donated to Green Bay West and Preble High school.

60-Minute Radio Show

March 8, 2021 marked the kick-off of our radio show: Bringing it to you Straight-Straight Answers to your Financial Questions! This 60-minute radio show is part of: Focus Fox Cities, hosted by Hayley Tenpas. It’s a great way to expand our educational outreach to a large audience.

Our CEO, Chris Allen, welcomed listeners to the show and shared some of Fox’s background. Jacob Phillips shared some very helpful information on the home buying process. Heidi Kiecker ended the show with some tips on how to avoid COVID scams and fraud, that unfortunately continue to target unsuspecting people.

For anyone not able to join us during the live show, they are welcome to visit our website to listen to the recording of the entire show, at their own convenience.

Next month, on April 12, we’ll be featuring Mike Pastorelli, where he’ll address all the things people need to know before buying their next car.

Bringing it to you Straight - Straight Answers to your Financial Questions

Scholarships

Each year Fox awards five graduating high school seniors with a $1000 scholarship. The scholarship is based on thoughtfully answering an essay question. This years’ question is: “What does the phrase ‘living within your means’ mean to you? How do you practice this in your daily activities? How will you practice this in college?”
Students must also share examples of their community service involvement. (All other requirements can be found on the scholarship page.)

Because of the complications of a pandemic, we opted to change the way the scholarships were handled this year. A process was created, and is now in place, for the students to complete, sign, and submit their application totally online. We’re very excited to be able to offer this convenience, for everyone’s safety! All applications are due by April 1, 2021. Scholarship award recipients will be notified by May 28, 2021.
