Donations and Handwarmers and Cocoa, oh my!
Posted on by Fox CommunitiesWinter days are always short, but they seem a lot shorter when you’re busy doing good all over your community! Read on to see what Fox and our staff have been up to
FUND THE GAP
November 30-January 17
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Green Bay area were unable to hold many of their major fundraisers for the year in 2020, and held a fundraiser to try to close the estimated $300,000 gap in funding they were going to experience as a result. Fox reached out to help them raise the money they would need to be able to keep doing the amazing work they do.

IMPACT SPORTS ACADEMY, DE PERE
Tuesday, January 5
Fox signed a three year agreement for outfield wall signage (20 x 10) with a new business member called Impact Sports Academy. Their building was also financed by Fox and is one of the few places in the state that has an indoor baseball diamond.

WASHINGTON PARK WINTER FESTIVAL
Saturday, January 16
Fox was the sole sponsor of this event in Neenah. It was a fun, family event and has been well-attended every year. Everyone stayed warm with smores and hot cocoa. This year there was very little snow on the hills, but that did not stop the kids from having fun!
MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY VOLUNTEER CELEBRATION
Monday, January 18
The Volunteer Center of the Fox Valley reached out to us to see if we could be one of the sponsors of the “Give Back on MLK Day Mystery Mission” event. Teams of 4-6 people embarked on a community-strengthening volunteer project from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Teams were spread throughout the Fox Valley, helping various non-profits with projects they needed completed.
COPS ‘N KIDS READING PROGRAM
Thursday, January 21
The Appleton/Fox Cities Kiwanis Club and the Appleton Police Departments reached out to Fox for this initiative. The program has two goals: 1) get kids excited about reading by giving them their own books and 2) help build a strong relationship between the Appleton Police Department and the community. They have installed two Little Libraries. Fox helped them out by purchasing 200 books for the libraries this year.
FEEDING AMERICA EASTERN WISCONSIN VOLUNTEERS
Monday, January 25
Another fantastic group of 20 Fox volunteers went to help out at Feeding America. This time labeling cans that they call “brights”, which are cans with no labels. Each can had a code stamped on the top and a label was placed on the top of the can. The labels list the contents of the can, the size, and the nutrition benefits.
WARM HANDS AND WARM FEET
Thursday, February 4
Pillars is a local organization of shelters and resources for the homeless. They currently house about 200 guests. They ran out of hand and foot warmers, which are a hot commodity at their facilities (pun intended). Many of the residents’ primary modes of transportation are walking, biking, and or buses and it has been cold! So, Fox purchased almost 500 hand and foot warmers to keep the guests warm. Pictured below are with three Shelter Client Advocates, at Pillars Adult & Family Shelter, and a Street Outreach worker at Pillars Resource Center. We were told that they were handing these out like candy!!

PORKIES AND PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Sunday, February 7
Fox sponsored the silent auction for the Luxemburg Casco Spartan Football fundraiser breakfast with a chocolate basket we purchased from one of our local Howard small business members.
NEW LONDON LIBRARY ANNEX
Ongoing
Fox is one of the sponsors of this brand-new library annex that will help with the revitalization of downtown New London. Concerned citizens came together looking for a safe place for children and adults to meet. New London does not have a community center, and very little access to technology. This is the beginning rendering of the building which is located by the New London Library.

MEMBER EDUCATION
60-Minute Radio Show
To expand our educational outreach, Fox will be hosting a 60-minute radio show on WHBY. The show will air from 4-5pm on the second Monday of each month. Hayley Tenpas, will host the show, using a Q&A format. Listeners will also have an opportunity to call in to ask questions. We plan on connecting our member webinars to the radio show, by having the radio presenter promote the upcoming webinar, on the same topic.
We also plan on using some of the airtime to address the all-important topics of fraud and scams. We plan to cover the latest information on these topics, and to share ways on how people can protect themselves. This is such important information to share, we may cover these topics during a segment of each show.
