Weeks 18 & 19: Junk! Junk For Sale!
Posted on by Lindsay DiedrichMy friend just bought her first house and needed to downsize her belongings before moving. However, she felt she didn’t have enough stuff to qualify for a rummage sale, so she asked family and friends if they had anything they wanted to sell. Yes, please!
Luckily for her, I had some junk on hand that I was sick of looking at. I knew if I really went through my house, I could find lots of treasures for other people to buy. Unfortunately, my motivation wasn’t running on all cylinders the evening I gathered my goods. I did cull enough stuff together to fill my trunk, though.
In exchange for including my things in her rummage sale, I offered to help out the first afternoon. Here’s what I learned:
- For some reason, my stuff seemed so much more valuable sitting on those card tables in the driveway, than it did packed in boxes in my basement. In other words, I had to lower the prices a few times to move some merch.
- I made fun of my friend for selling a boatload of bath towels and bed sheets. Never thought those would sell. Well, they all sold on the first day.
- Time went by faster when sipping on Spotted Cow.
The Results
I sold approximately 3/5 of what is in my trunk for a grand total of $39. Not too shabby! All of it but $2 went into my 52 Week sub-savings account (18+19=37), bringing my total to $190. I’m feeling really good about this.
